Kayak Crew 2020

Dear Kayakers!

The kayak season is in full swing by now, we are settling in at our new location at Grundsunds Marina and we have a whole new team setup for this year. As newbies we have Katharina and Dana onboard, joined by our all-time experts Clara and Christina who are ready for courses and longer tours, as always.

All of us are excited about this season and eager to meet you and help you get into the kayak and out on the water!

If you are a regular visitor at the Kayak Center chances are high that you will meet all of us. If not, we will introduce this year’s crew here for you to get to know us.

Newest of all is Katharina, who has left the mountains of northern Sweden to spend the summer with us on the west coast. She loves to spend her free time outdoors, exploring the archipelago on shorter and longer tours to be able to give you good recommendations for your next tour! As a former chef she will also be extra happy to talk to you about food in general and food on tours especially. Language is not a problem for Katharina since she speaks Swedish, Norwegian, German and English fluently.

Dana started on June 1st and has been kayaking around the lakes of Germany and recently around Grundsund. She also knows her way to Strömstad and around Orust. It is thanks to her and her talent in marketing and social media that our webpage and blog is kept in a good and updated condition. Practice German or English with her or help her improve her Swedish!

Clara is Christinas daughter and thus grew up in a kayak, is a trained outdoor guide and has 10 years of experience at Grundsund Kayak Center a.k.a. Kajak i Grundsund. She loves the longer tours the most and is always eager to share her knowledge and show our beautiful sea and landscape to visitors. When not out in a kayak you might find her jumping around and climbing the rocks around Grundsund or in front of a sewing machine making clothes.

Founder and owner of Kajak i Grundsund is Christina, who has built and run the company for 16 years now. She is most often seen on courses and tours where she will tell you everything you need to know about wind, waves and traveling by kayak. If you manage to catch her on land, at the Kayak Center, she is always happy to chat for a bit. On tours she is known for spoiling you with her cooking, you would be surprised by the diversity of meals she can create on an outdoor stove.

Gothenburg – here we come!

We wave goodbye to four strong paddlers who left for Gothenburg with planned arrival on Friday. 14 m/s with gusts of 23 m/s – it is a challenge! Good luck!

The office is open for rental and courses as usual during the week, welcome!

We did our wonderful kayak tour to Strömstad! Come and join us on our other tours during summer 2020.

This year, in the end of May, we did our traditional “opening of the season”-Tour from our Kayak Center in Grundsund to Strömstad. It was the 15th time for our Guide and Owner of Kayak Grundsund Christina! Wow! Having her on our side and the good weather, we couldn’t have been any luckier. Or maybe yes, because on our way to Strömstad we met 8 seals, 2 porpoises and discovered a new camping spot. Also, there were very few boats around so that we had the sea often to ourselves. Beautiful! As this wasn’t already enough, Christina served us delicious local food throughout the days and had a good sense of when to have a break or a snack ! From Grundsund to Strömstad, Spring 2020

We take charge, defy all cancellations, and do what we long for. We paddle from Grundsund towards Strömstad during calendar week 22! Do you have time in form of holidays, layoffs, pensions … and can you paddle? Would you like to join us on a slightly shortened variant of our classic Grundsund – Strömstad?

We paddle, go camping, eat well and enjoy the nature. This is our usual tribute to Bohuslän and a sure sign that summer is imminent. With a reduced price and a day shorter the paddle trip starts from the north on Monday 25th May. Strömstad will be the final destination, at lunchtime on Friday, if the weather allows it. If it becomes a slow ride with resistance in water and wind, we stop paddling somewhere else, where a pickup can take place.

Booking at short notice? Of course, in these times everything happens at short notice. At present we are 3 people so you and maybe 1-2 more make the group just great. We paddle regardless of whether we get more people to join and see it as an opportunity, followed by many more during the summer. Now or soon, that is the question.

It is time again to crawl close and embrace the blooming nature. We think it will respond generously to the hugs.

We have just opened our new location and we are ready for the summer. A new chapter has begun to be written – the sun is shining.

It has happened, we have moved! After 15 years at Östra Kajen we are at Grundsunds Marina now. In a blue castle, two meters from the sea, sheltered from the wind, with morning sun and nice coffee. Last friday (01.05.20) it was Open-door day with coffee and pretty tasty home baked buns. It brought in (outdoor enthusiastic) friends and flowers all day long.

It is great to start over in a quieter environment and with larger premises. We take this up to the next level that provides new opportunities for our kayaking activities. Generous areas, protected water in connection with the kayak rental allows good opportunities for family paddling. We are even closer to the wind and waves than before (just around the corner …) and we have as well good conditions for the courses and our long trips. It can only be good here, we are so eager and expectant.
